TRULLO

Recently renovated. Due to the presence of a bull string course it could be dated to the period between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The bull shows that from the very beginning it was conceived as a structure on two levels separated by a wooden mezzanine. ÈIt was probably built as a watchtower during the last Ottoman invasions.

It is different from the more typical trulli as the interior is made entirely of squared limestone blocks. Only the sturdy external wall is made of rough-hewn stone.
